From player exclusives to friends and family hookups, we take a look back and highlight the 15 best unreleased sneakers that were revealed in 2013 but didn’t hit retail. You already know basketball players get hooked up with all kinds of exclusive Jordans and this past year did not disappoint with Russell Westbrook’s Jordan III PE or Ray Allen’s “Two Rings” Jordan XI. But those were the only ones and there were a couple Zoom Revis iterations we’re pretty sure would get gobbled up quick if they ever hit retail. But take a look and see which unreleased jewel is your favorite and let us know in the comments section below what maybe caught your eye that you wanted to see release!
Nike Zoom Revis "Passing The Torch"
One of a couple Sole Collector designed colorways of the Revis from this year, this iteration takes inspiration from the classic ’49ers’ colorway of the Nike Air Diamond Turf II. Sole Collector branding is absent on this pair as it was made to celebrate Revis’s rise to the top, while also paying homage to the lineage of both Nike Training and the cornerback position.
Air Jordan XX8 "Finals Alternate" Ray Allen PE
Ray Allen rocked many colorways of the Air Jordan XX8 throughout the 2013 NBA Playoffs en route to his second title. But it was this red and gold pair that takes the cake. Featuring a fractal design on the upper with gold accents and a glittered translucent outsole along with his logo on the inner shroud.
LeBron X P.S. Elite "All-Star" Diana Taurasi PE
Diana Taurasi still remains one of the best players in the WNBA. She was selected as an All-Star in 2013 once again and was outfitted with a great colorway of the LeBron X P.S. Elite. These kicks featured a wide range of colors and designs that definitely got people’s attention.
Air Jordan IV Retro "UNC"
Jordan Brand continued to support MJ’s alma mater in 2013 by honoring his Tar Heels with this exclusive colorway of the Air Jordan IV Retro. Complete with teams logos and argyle print detailing tying everything together quite nicely.
LeBron X P.S. Elite "Shooting Stars"
Made for LeBron’s sponsored AAU team, this unique colorway of the LeBron 11 definitely captures the eye with its use of bright colors along with graphic detailing on the sockliner and a speckled midsole.
Air Jordan IV Retro 'Purple Nubuck' Chris Paul PE
CP3 received many exclusive colorways of the Air Jordan 4 Retro along with other models this past year. But it was this purple-based pair that really caught our eye. Just look at it pop! It’s really too bad these did not release.
Air Jordan XX3 "Red Velvet" Maya Moore PE
Jordan Brand honored Maya Moore’s final day at age twenty-three by gifting her with this exclusive “Red Velvet” edition of the Air Jordan XX3. Featuring a great combination of the classic black, red and white, it’s no surprise that these were love at first sight.
Air Jordan XI Retro Low 'Cool Grey' Michael Jordan PE
As everyone gets ready for the ‘Concords’ to finally release in a low top, his Airness has brought the ‘Cool Grey’ colorway into the discussion by receiving a pair all to himself.
Air Jordan III Retro "OKC Away" Russell Westbrook PE
Before the Air Jordan XX8 took full force, Russell Westbrook broke out the Air Jordan 3 Retro for a game. A new twist on the classic black/cement colorway featuring hits of orange and blue along with a yellow Jumpman on the tongue. It’s safe to say these would be a sought after pickup if they ever hit retail.
Air Jordan "Legends of Summer" Pack
Coming to light this past summer, Justin Timberlake worked with Jordan Brand on the “Legends of Summer” pack in celebration of his tour with Jay Z. The pack consisted of three models and four total iterations as there were two Jordan Is, as well as a Jordan II and Jordan III all done up in can’t-miss red. Consider yourself very lucky if you have any of the four releases in your possession because who knows if the general public will ever have the chance to cop.
Nike Zoom Revis "Talaria"
Made in collaboration with Sole Collector, this Revis exclusive was inspired by the original Nike Air Talaria complete with neon felt upper. Another SC pair we wouldn’t have minded hitting retail.
Nike LeBron X EXT 'Red Suede'
LeBron sported many player exclusive colorways of the LeBron X EXT in 2013. Four colorways ended up releasing to overwhelming fanfare but out of them all, the pair we all wanted to drop was this ‘Red Suede’ iteration. Too dope.
Air Jordan V Retro "Oregon Ducks"
For the third straight year, Jordan Brand has made a shoe for the University of Oregon. This year, it was the Air Jordan 5 Retro that donned the teams colors, but it’s that green based upper that really makes these stand out. While maybe not released this year, the rumor mill suggests these will hit retail in 2014. Can you say pandemonium?!
Air Jordan XI Retro "Two Rings" Ray Allen PE
Ray Allen won his second NBA Championship in 2013 during his first season with the Miami Heat. To celebrate the occasion, Jordan Brand made this exclusive colorway of the Air Jordan 11 Retro for ‘Sugar Ray’ to wear during the ring ceremony to start this campaign. Just another exclusive XI for Mr. Allen and another pair to add to the grail list.
Nike Air Yeezy 2 "Red October"
Without a doubt, the most coveted pair of sneakers of the year and certainly the most talked about. With almost monthly ‘will they or won’t they’ release speculation and Kanye West now signing with adidas, the infamous third colorway of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 may never see the light of day…or will it?
