15 Best Christmas Colorways From The Past 5 Years

With today being Christmas Eve, what better time to look back at the best Christmas-themed colorway releases from the past five years! Please note this list does not take into account the Jordan releases that dropped today or the Nike basketball releases that drop in a couple days. We’re sure some of those will find their way onto this type of list definitely in the future. But in the meantime, Christmas-themed drops from the likes of Nike, Jordan and adidas have produced quite various results over the last few years. You will find releases that keep it very traditional with red and green, while others, such as past releases from the KD line, have definitely switched it up and produced some loud, head-turning iterations. While you enjoy Christmas Eve, take a look and see which would rank as your favorite!

Jordan CP3.VI "White Christmas" Edition

Release Date: 12/24/2012

The Jordan CP3 line, just like the man himself, keeps getting stronger as the years go on. Last year, CP3 got blessed with one of the cleanest Christmas colorways around. Most Christmas colorways try and shock or simply catch the eye with crazy bright colors…even if they don’t match the teams unis. But, the CP3 VI Christmas Edition went for subtlety and killed it with these.

Nike KD III "Christmas"

Release Date: 12/25/2010

Speaking of loud colorways that don’t exactly match the team uni’s, Kevin Durant’s signature line has never been one to paint between the lines. But, with KD’s third silo, we ain’t even mad though. Back in 2010, the KD III got turned up with this bright yellow treatment. Matching or not, we love it.

Nike Kobe V "Christmas"

Release Date: 12/26/2009

Despite all the attention the LeBron line justifiably gets with all its high-profile colorways, the Nike Zoom Kobe has been putting in work for years. In 2009, the Kobe V got this clean makeup just in time for the holidays. Featuring a nice mix of grey and blue hits, as well as a dope gold speckled sole, Mamba (and Nike) put it down with this one.

Nike Kobe 8 "Christmas"

Release Date: 12/26/2012

Last year’s Kobe 8 saw so many colorways that, even come 2014, Nike is still hitting it up with new makeups. One of the most popular, the Christmas colorway, is also one of our favorites from that silo. Done up with a black upper, featuring a multi-color snake print made to look like Christmas lights, it’s no surprise these were the toughest of Nike’s big three Christmas Day signatures to cop.

Nike KD V "Christmas"

Release Date: 12/26/2012

With all the success of the KD IV, the line’s fifth silhouette had some big shoes to fill. And, though many would argue that the KD line (though still relatively new) peaked with the IV, the V had many dope colorways (and plenty of sell-out too). One of the better colorways that blessed the KD V was this multi-colored banger that Durant laced up on Christmas Day.

LeBron VII "Christmas"

Release Date: 12/26/2009

The LeBron line gets so many colorways, it’s no surprise some fade from memory as time goes by. But, don’t sleep on this one. The LeBron VII is one of our favorites, and the Christmas colorway he laced up in 2009, while still with the Cavs was just DYLAN…hot fire!

adidas Crazy 8 "Nightmare Before Christmas"

Release Date: 12/21/2013

A late entry to our list, the adidas Crazy 8 “Nightmare Before Christmas,” is the most recently released of the group. But that doesn’t make it any less special. We’re big fans of what adidas is doing, digging into their extensive vault for retros, and continuing to bring out classic bangers like the “Crazy 8.” Draping it in their wild “Nightmare Before Christmas” colorway, with a purple upper and glow-in-the-dark speckles, the three-stripes has a winner on it’s hands because these have been moving quick all over.

KD IV "Christmas"

Release Date: 12/25/2011

As always, Leo Chang and Nike were thinking out-of-the-box with this dope Christmas colorway of the KD IV. Way outside the box. Usually, no matter how wild the shoe may be, there tends to be at least SOME semblance of a team colorway in the Christmas Day makeups, but not in the “Copper” KD IV. We don’t even care, because these are straight classics.

adidas D Rose 3 "Nightmare Before Christmas"

Release Date: 12/24/2012

We feel that the D Rose 3 “Nightmare Before Christmas” is the best colorway Rose’s signature has seen. Adidas had a winner on their hands the first time they used the colorway, as it’s one of the best they’ve dropped in quite some time. And with all the success the brand has had as of late, we feel that high praise is justified with the D Rose 3 “Nightmare.” We hope this is one we can look forward to every year.

LeBron 9 "Christmas"

Release Date: 12/25/2011

The LeBron 9 was at it’s best when it went simple and loud (think Big Bang, China and Elite colorways). And 2011’s Christmas Day colorway was no exception. Getting that classic red and green treatment, the LeBron 9 “Christmas” was one of our favorite colorways the 9 ever saw. Simple and effective.

Nike Kobe VII Supreme 'Christmas Day' "Cheetah"

Release Date: 12/25/2011

Even though Kobe’s best colorways are almost always snake-themed (a la the Black Mamba nickname), the Christmas Day “Cheetah” colorway of the Kobe VII was an absolute banger. As strange and unexpected as it may be, the purple cheetah print actually works. That’s one sentence we never though we’d ever type.

LeBron X "Christmas"

Release Date: 12/26/2012

Taking the clean and simple red and green theme seen on the “Christmas” LeBron 9, the LeBron X takes it up a notch by giving it an anodized metallic red color and a smooth green outsole. Nike also went for a more spearmint green color, which we think works even better than the traditional green. These are absolutely stunning in person.

Concepts x Nike SB Dunk High "Ugly Chrsitmas Sweater"

Release Date: 12/7/2013

Releasing just a couple weeks ago, Concepts cooked up a heat rock with both the black and heather grey “Ugly Christmas Sweater” SB Dunks. First off, the concept (no pun intended) is hilarious. Ugly Christmas sweater parties have become the norm around the Holidays over recent years and the demand for both of these Dunks was really high. Of course, the black pair was exclusive to Concepts, but not many spots had the grey pair as well just a week later.

LeBron VIII V2 "Christmas"

Release Date: 12/25/2010

The traditional red and green colorway hit the LeBron signature three years running and, even though all three are on this list, they got it right the first time. Solid red upper? Check. Green Laces? Check. Sweet black and white speckled midsole? Check mate. These are fantastic.

Nike Kobe VI "Grinch"

Release Date: 12/25/2010

With all respect to the rest of the signatures on this list, none can even hold a candle to the best Christmas colorway ever, the Nike Kobe VI “Grinch.” On-the-court or off, the “Grinch” Kobe VI is one of our favorite original Nike colorways of the last decade, and our favorite colorway in the Kobe line. Absolutely classic and highly sought after.
