julyjordans

As you await more Jordan drops later this month, we take a look back and highlight the 25 best Jordans to release in sunny July throughout the years. One thing you will notice when checking out this list is there were definitely some beloved IIIs and IVs hitting retail shelves in July. But not to be outdone, there were also some dope Vs and IXs as well. Take a look for yourself to brush up on some Jordan release history and let us know in the comments section below which has been your favorite Jordan to release in July.

Air Jordan V White/Metallic

Release Date: 7/1/2000

Simplicity is a beautiful thing. Particularly when it refers to a crispy clean white colorway on one of our favorite Air Jordan silos of all time. These white/metallic Air Jordan Vs are perfect for shining in the summertime.

Air Jordan III Black Cement

Release Date: 7/14/2001

You already know what it is. Perhaps the most universally recognized Air Jordan ever made saw it’s last retro, in it’s OG form, in July of 2001. Of course, JB has blessed us in recent years with a rerun of the White Cement AJ3 Retro 88. But many of us have been waiting with baited breath for the return of the true “Nike Air” Black Cement III. Fingers crossed!

Air Jordan IX Low White/Chrome

Release Date: 7/3/2002

We’ve always repped hard for the Air Jordan IX, as one of Jordan Brand’s most under appreciated silhouettes. And these gorgeous low top IXs are one of the primary reasons we love ’em. AJ XI aside, rarely does a low top silo look as nice as the higher-cut originals. But 2002s Chrome Low IXs are an exception to that.

Air Jordan XVII White/Varsity Red

Release Date: 7/31/2002

Retros from the post-retirement Air Jordan line are few and far between. But JB really should start bringing back gems like the AJ XVII. We’re particularly fond of the clean white/varsity red colorway that dropped back in late July 2002.

Air Jordan IV White/Classic Green

Release Date: 7/24/2004

In the year 2014, there are just so many dope Air Jordan IV colorways, it’s easy to overlook some now and again. But, these super clean white/green IVs dropped back in the summer of ’04 and should not be slept on. We’re hoping JB dips back into the vault and retros these babies soon.

Air Jordan X 'Linen'

Release Date: 7/23/2005

The Air Jordan X may not be for everyone. That being said, fans of the shoe – us included – are especially passionate about the awesome “Linen” X. Unfortunately for us, we’ve yet to see a retro of these beauties. But rest assured, if JB decides to bring ’em back, that’s an easy cop.

Air Jordan X "Black Cat"

Release Date: 7/23/2005

You might think that summer, July in particular, is a time for all-white kicks. Which makes it odd as to why JB decided to drop this primarily all-black Air Jordan X in the dog days of summer 2005. Similar to the Air Jordan X ‘Linen’ (which coincidentally dropped on the same day), what appeals to us about the shoe is the simple, understated colorway. It really allows you to wear it with whatever you want. We’ll take an all-black 10 anytime of the year.

Air Jordan IV "Mars Blackmon"

Release Date: 7/22/2006

Dropping back in July 2006, the “Mars” IV was a retro of a beloved OG colorway with a little something extra. Designed to honor Spike Lee a.k.a. Mars Blackmon himself, these IVs featured the infamous ‘Mars’ graphics on the heels. While many may argue that they sullied a dope OG retro with unnecessary graphics, we would counter by saying that they were well done, and that you can never have too many Air Jordan IVs!

Air Jordan IV WMNS 'Sand'

Release Date: 7/22/2006

Speaking of dope IVs, we’ve been dying for JB to bring back the AJ IV ‘Sand.’ Also known as the ‘Linen’ IV, for it’s resemblance to the aforementioned AJ X, when these beauties dropped back in summer of ’06, they did so only in women’s sizes. Which is a shame, but the good news for the fellas was that these were produced in some large women’s sizes so guys could still get down.

Air Jordan VII Miro

Release Date: 7/3/2008

Another ridiculously awesome Jordan we’d love to see come back to retail is the infamous Air Jordan VII “Miro.” Unfortunately for us, due to it’s super limited, Euro-exclusive 2008 release, the Miro VII has been little more than a pipe dream for many stateside sneakerheads.

Air Jordan 4/19 CDP

Release Date: 7/19/2008

The third retro of the iconic Black/Cement Air Jordan IV was perhaps it’s most hyped (even surpassing 2012’s retro, in our estimation). Back in 2008, when Jordan Brand was dropping Countdown Packs, the Black Cement IV hadn’t been seen since 1999. That near-decade of anticipation meant that the 4/19 pack was one of the more difficult pickups of all the CDPs…even if it was paired up with the XIX which, even back in 2008, was not a very popular retro.

Air Jordan I High 'Metallic Green' & 'Metallic Red'

Release Date: 7/4/2009

It’s not everyday that you can head on down to your local sneaker shop and pick up not one, but two OG Air Jordan colorways on the same day. But, back in July 2009, JB brought back some classics in the Air Jordan I High ‘Metallic Green’ and ‘Metallic Red’ colorways. Though not as beloved as the iconic Black/Red or Royals, the ‘Metalli’c pack is a very important part of the Jordan Brand legend, and these gems are just spectacular.

Air Jordan I DMP 60+ Pack

Release Date: 7/11/2009

Sure, Jordan might have pestered Celtics fans throughout his career, but back in July 2009, he made those wounds heal just a little bit with the Air Jordan I DMP 60+ pack. Coming equipped with the legendary Black/Red Is, the pack was topped off by a new colorway, in a C’s-friendly white/black/green. Now, they did celebrate the time MJ dropped 63 points on the Celtics in the 1986 NBA Playoffs. But still…the dope shoes help the healing process.

Air Jordan IX 'Citrus'

Release Date: 7/1/2010

In recent years, we’ve seen quite a few Air Jordan IX retros. Understatement aside, it’s easy to forget the Air Jordan IX ‘Citrus’ just dropped back in July 2010. Perhaps lost in the shuffle of some more hyped releases, the AJ IX Citrus is a proper “new” Air Jordan colorway, and one we hope makes it’s way back to retail sooner rather than later.

BUY HERE

Air Jordan IX "Quai 54"

Release Date: 7/1/2010

One of the reasons the aforementioned ‘Citrus’ IX may be considered “overlooked” is because they were most likely a consolation prize for those of us who couldn’t get that EU alley oop. These banging IXs dropped on the same day as the ‘Citrus’ IXs and sported something of an inverse colorway of white, trimmed with hits of patent leather and bright yellow. If you could get your hands on ’em, they were perfect for summer.

BUY HERE

Air Jordan II QF 'University Blue'

Release Date: 7/31/2010

Sure, these Air Jordan IIs aren’t for everyone. But those of us who love that ‘University Blue’ hue, were happy to line up when they dropped back in 2010. These IIs are proper!

BUY HERE

Air Jordan V "Quai 54"

Release Date: 7/1/2011

Speaking of super-limited EU-only releases, the Air Jordan V “Quai 54″ was (and still is) an absolute banger. Released back in 2011, as part of the annual Quai 54 streetball tourney in Paris, these Vs are by far our favorite of the Quai releases. Acquiring them on the other hand is NOT one of our favorites.

BUY HERE

Air Jordan V "Independence Day"

Release Date: 7/2/2011

Many sneakerheads are skeptical when it comes to new colorways on iconic sneakers like the Air Jordan V, but the “Independence Day” Vs that dropped back in 2011 are fine by us! What better way to rep the stars and stripes than in a crispy pair of new Vs?

BUY HERE

Air Jordan XIII Ray Allen PE

Release Date: 7/23/2011

We were so stoked back in summer 2011 when we found out the Air Jordan XIII Ray Allen PEs were actually going to be hitting retail. But, we were subsequently less stoked when we saw how limited they were, and where they were dropping. That being said, these are one of the best XIIIs of all time and they celebrate a huge milestone in the career of one of our favorite modern NBA players.

BUY HERE

Air Jordan VII "Olympic"

Release Date: 7/1/2012

We love the “Olympic” Air Jordan VIIs. Not only are they a dope sneaker in a great colorway, but they sport a bit of Jordan history that no other Jays have, a number other than 23 on them (#9, MJ’s Olympic Team number).

BUY HERE

Jordan I High "Road to the Gold" Vegas

Release Date: 7/7/2012

Possibly overlooked by the release of the “Olympic” Jordan 6 on the same day, as well as other Jordan “Road to the Gold” releases, the ‘Las Vegas’ edition of the Jordan I High was a bit of a sleeper, but for those who grabbed a pair, they were not disappointed. These come in such a clean and simple colorway, but feature plenty of subtle noise with a dope graphic lining the insides.

BUY HERE

Air Jordan VI "Olympic"

Release Date: 7/7/2012

Speaking of great Olympic colorways, our all-time favorite, the “Olympic” Air Jordan VI, dropped just a week after the VIIs back in summer 2012. Oooh baby, July 2012 was a month with some difficult choices to make!

BUY HERE

Air Jordan I Hi OG "Shadow"

Release Date: 7/13/2013

Like most of you guys out there, we’re absolute suckers for OG Air Jordan colorways. So, when we found out the Air Jordan I “Shadow” was coming back to retail, our first thought was not how do we cop them, but was instead how MANY pairs should we get. These Is are beautiful, classic and versatile…some of the best!

BUY HERE

Air Jordan IV "Toro"

Release Date: 7/13/2013

Capitalizing on the all-red colorway, even before all that Red October business, the Air Jordan IV hit in July 2013 and drove the hypebeasts wild. One of the better new colorways in recent memory, you can guarantee this future classic will see a retro in due time.

BUY HERE

Air Jordan III 'Doernbecher' (Cole)

Release Date: 7/20/2013

Speaking of that all-red hype, Jordan heads were both furious and excited when JB announced they were bringing back, what is considered a grail to many. The “Doernbecher” Air Jordan III was the first DB sneaker to retro, and doing so, especially so close to it’s original release (2010), had JB fans feeling some type of way. Whether or not you were happy or mad about the quick retro, the “Doernbecher” Air Jordan III is certainly one of the best Jordans to release in July…perhaps ever!
