Never Forget: A Look Back At Darius Miles’ Jordan Game

Darius Miles burst onto the NBA scene straight out of high school in 2000 and night after night hit the court hard in plenty of Jordan heat. Starting his career off with Clippers, Miles athleticism was evident from the jump and he earned first-team all-rookie honors during his ‘freshman’ NBA campaign. While Miles had a ton of promise early on, he never truly reached his full potential as he bounced around to four NBA teams in eight seasons and dealt with knee injury issues. During his first few years flying up and down the court as a member of both the Clippers and Cavs, Miles was a very influential figure to the young NBA fan and he never let kicks enthusiasts down with his choice of footwear. While his career was pretty brief, we take a look back and remember Miles’ Jordan game.

Air Jordan XI "Space Jam"

Year Worn: 2000

Back in D-Miles’ early playing days, he hadn’t been a member of team Jordan long so that meant rocking some mean GR colorways, like the always proper “Space Jam” XI.

Air Jordan XI 'Cool Grey'

Year Worn: 2000

Like the Space Jams, another XI Darius rocked early on his career may not be an OG either, but that doesn’t make them any less fantastic. And they’re one of our personal favorites too: the “Cool Grey” XIs. Always an excellent choice.

Air Jordan XI "Concord"

Year Worn: 2000

And honestly, who could pull out the Air Jordan XI without bringing it back to the OG. Miles loved to rock the “Concord” XIs often. It’s a legend for a reason.

Air Jordan XI "Columbia"

Year Worn: 2000

But oh, Darius wasn’t done stunting in XIs until he broke some necks (and likely, ankles) in the always-welcome AJ XI “Columbia.” Just looking at DMiles sporting these gets us hyped for their long-awaited return this winter.

Air Jordan XVI White/Navy

Year Worn: 2001

As you’ll see throughout this list, Darius was very fond of a handful of Air Jordan silos throughout his playing days. And one that pops up over and over again (particularly from his days with the LA Clippers) are the massively under-appreciated Air Jordan XVIs. Seen here in the white/navy colorway, D-Miles loved the 16.

Air Jordan IX "Clippers" PE

Year Worn: 2001

As you’ll soon notice, Miles’ favorite Air Jordan silo is likely the IX, as he rocked it (usually in a fantastic PE colorway) with almost every team he played for. Seen here are the Air Jordan IX PEs in a Clippers-friendly white/navy patent leather colorway.

Air Jordan IX "Clippers" Alternate PE

Year Worn: 2001

Oh, you thought the previous IX “Clippers” PE was fire? Well check these beauties out! D-Miles brought these dark ‘University Blue’ bangers out, alongside the excellent Clippers alternate Jerseys in 2001. We’re of the opinion that, if these patent leather gems would have released to the public, the general perception of the silhouette as a whole, would be seen in a completely different light. These are amazing.

Air Jordan V White/Silver

Year Worn: 2001

Even after rocking some crazy-awesome PEs, Mr. Miles still liked to keep in real in some clean GRs too. We’re obviously a huge fan of the Air Jordan V, and these white/silver colorways can get it any time!

Air Jordan XI "Playoffs"

Year Worn: 2001

And of course, who could forget the Air Jordan XI “Playoffs?” These classics could literally go with nearly any NBA teams unis. But, they do look particularly awesome against those Clips colors.

Air Jordan XVII PE

Year Worn: 2002

Oh, this one brings us back a bit. Darius joined teammate and Jordan Brand peer Quentin Richardson on the cover of Slam Magazine’s 5th Kicks edition in 2002. To celebrate the occasion, D-Miles sports the super-clean black/silver Air Jordan XVII. Also, bonus bangers: just look at Q-Rich’s feet…COLUMBIA XI LOWS SON!

Air Jordan IX PE

Year Worn: 2002 (pictured in Cavs jersey wearing them in 2003)

It’s all about the details with these fantastic Air Jordan IX PEs. Sure, we all know about the OG “Charcoal” Air Jordan IX that also made the retro rounds in 2010. But we love the small changes made to accommodate D-Miles here. Swapping the black sole for a white one just makes these 9s pop. Darius rocked this hotness both with the Clippers, and as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Air Jordan XVI "Clippers" Away PE

Year Worn: 2002

Another PE where subtlety is the key. Again, with the Clips, D-Miles broke out a slightly modified black/red Air Jordan XVI. Sporting personalization upgrades, Miles liked to rock these on court without the iconic shroud the silo was known for.

Air Jordan IX Black/Red PE

Year Worn: 2003

Even though he was traded to the Cavs away from the Clippers, that didn’t stop Miles’ love for rocking the 9 on court. This particular PE is nearly all blacked out and features both patent leather and hits of red covering the Jumpman and inside lining. You could find D-Miles wearing these in summer league and during the regular season.

Air Jordan IX "Cavs" PE

Year Worn: 2003

One of our favorite Darius PEs is another IX. This time, he rocked these white/orange patent leather PEs as a member of the Cleveland Cavs, and he usually brought ’em out with the sweet Cavs alternates. These are fantastic.

Air Jordan VIII "Cavs" PE

Year Worn: 2003

Again, Darius Miles was known to rock some awesome PEs. However, he usually stuck to just a handful of models (like the IX and XVI). That’s why we actually love these Jordan 8 “Cavs” PEs. Ooh boy, if these dropped at retail, this one would have had ’em lined up around the block!
