With SummerSlam (2014) coming up this weekend, we decided to take a look back at some of the best footwear work in-ring, and out, by your favorite WWE Superstars. While boots are the mainstay in professional wrestling, it is not too common to see a wrestler or character opt for wearing sneakers instead. You’ve probably seen Hulk Hogan sporting plenty of Jordans lately, but he isn’t the only wrestler lacing up Js or Nike’s. Take a look and let us know in the comments section below if you think we’ll see any heat at this year’s SummerSlam come Sunday!
Shane McMahon - Jordan III
What would a post covering wrestlers in sneakers be without highlighting Shane McMahon’s love for the Air Jordan III? While he mostly stuck to the 2001 ‘True Blue’ Retro, he also laced up Black/Cements from ’01, as well as ‘Fire Reds’ from 2007. It’s no secret that the AJ3 is Shane’s favorite shoe and, he once stated that he had to have multiples stored away so he wouldn’t run out, and this was in 2007! NIKE AIR.
Batista - Jordan XX8
When Batista made his return to the WWE earlier this year, he laced up the Air Jordan XX8. Over the course of the next few months, The Animal could be seen in multiple colorways, clearly stating that he preferred to rock the b-ball shoes instead of wrestling boots.
John Cena - Jordan 2009
While he may be known for wearing Reeboks during the earlier part of his career, and Under Armour and Puma in more recent years, there was a short period of time that John Cena laced up some Js. Even though he’s from the Boston area and a Red Sox fan, he rocked a Derek Jeter signature shoe for awhile (crazy, right!?), as well as the ‘red-headed step child’ of the Jordan line, the Air Jordan 2009. We guess that the heel of the AJ 2009 made for better support in-ring than on the hardwood?
Kofi Kingston - LeBron 9 and LeBron 9 Elite
Kofi Kingston is normally seen wrestling in sneakers and he usually wears a pair that matches his ring attire as well. Even though it may be hard to tell what he’s wear sometimes with all the padding covering his feet, you can usually catch a glimpse of what he’s rocking. On a few occasions he broke out both the “Miami Hurricanes” LeBron 9 and the “Taxi” LeBron 9 Elite.
Hulk Hogan - Air Jordans
Hulk Hogan joined the celebrity sneaker world after showing off some pickups he received courtesy of Fat Joe and Jordan Brand. For a few months, the Hulkster would pop up in a pair or two, as well as show off some newer pickups he got. While some of us might have had to put some effort into scooping some of these pairs up, we don’t think Hogan had problems securing any.
Shane McMahon - Nike SB Dunk
While Shane McMahon may be known for consistently wearing AJ3s any chance he got, there were a few times he chose to rock something different. “Olympic” AJ1s, “Tuxedo” Air Trainer SCs and even the “Papa Bear” Nike SB Dunk High have graced Shane-O-Mac’s feet in the squared circle.
Batista - Kobe 9 Elite "Masterpiece"
In a non-wrestling environment, Batista still finds sneakers to wear outside of his go-to classic wheat Timbs. When he came out on Monday Night Raw in the “Masterpiece” Kobe 9 Elite, it quickly grabbed the attention of all the wrestling sneakerheads out there.
Bret Hart - Jordan True Flight
While the True Flight might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s still pretty dope to see Bret “The Hitman” Hart rock a pair of Jordans. Sure, we would’ve all loved to see him in an actual Air Jordan like, the AJ7 per say, but its a Jordan to say the least.
The Rock - Nike Air Max Trainer 1.3 Breathe
When The Rock FINALLY came back to the WWE one night on Monday Night Raw, he decided to have a ‘Rock Concert’ dedicated to Vickie Guerrero. While Rocky usually laces his boots up in the ring, or Under Armour casually of late, he broke out a pair of the Air Max Trainer 1.3 Breathe for this special show.
Kofi Kingston - Nike KD III
The “Christmas” KD III was a go-to sneaker for Kofi Kingston for quite sometime, as he wore them for the course of a few months, before switching into something different for his next ring attire.
Batista - Nike Kobe IV
While repping the LA Lakers for a tag-team themed match, Batista pulled out the “POP” edition of the Zoom Kobe IV. This was one of the first times he ditched his wrestling boots in exchange for sneakers in-ring.
Damien Sandow - Jordan True Flight
While Sandow prefers to wear traditional wrestling boots in the ring, some recent ‘comedic’ segments he has done on Monday Night Raw have seen him ‘dress up’ a bit. Two of those occasions, while he impersonated professional basketball players, he could be seen rocking the Jordan True Flight. Hey, we have to give him some credit, at least he wore basketball sneakers.
Hulk Hogan - Air Jordans
Currently, Hulk Hogan’s go-to sneaker is the ‘Crimson’ Air Jordan 3 Retro. Ever since his return to the WWE earlier this year, you can see him rocking these AJ3s in almost every appearance he has done.
Batista - Nike Air Force 1 Low
When Batista left the WWE a few years ago, he made the announcement live on Monday Night Raw, in the middle of the ring. Badly ‘beaten’ after the previous nights pay-per-view, he sat in a wheelchair as he bid adieu to the WWE Universe in a fresh pair of white-on-white Air Force 1 Lows.
Kevin Nash - Jordan VI Black/Infrared
In 2002, the NWO made their debut in the WWE at the No Way Out Pay-Per-View. Kevin Nash rocked the ‘Infrared’ Air Jordan 6 Retro from 2000 to the ring alongside Hulk Hogan and Scott Hall. Nash is known for wearing Jordan’s here and there as he could previously be seen in the black/red Air Jordan XI and Air Jordan XIII.
